Education and Empowerment

Emory University’s Center for Contemplative Science and Compassion-Based Ethics created the Social, Emotional and Ethical Learning (SEE Learning) Curriculum for K-12. The initiative began in 1998 as a collaboration between the university and His Holiness, the Dalai Lama. Guided by a shared understanding of the need to educate both the heart and mind, the international program conveys a universal, non-sectarian, and science-based approach to the ethical development of the whole child.

The Siddhartha School annually provides 450 disadvantaged children in the Himalayas with access to a thoroughly modern education that is in harmony with their rich heritage and cultural traditions. Our Foundation provides funding to support programs that integrate compassion, ethics, and integrity training into the school’s curriculum.

The Foundation’s science-based, K-12, Compassion-Centered Lesson Plans leverage photographs from our Shades of Compassion traveling museum exhibition, to foster compassion among school-aged children worldwide. The sessions were designed in collaboration with Emory University’s Center for Contemplative Science and Compassion-Based Ethics, and are promoted by both organizations.
